European Football Milestones

European Football Milestones 2011:
Football camp report:
In 2011, 323 players attended the football camp at Ansbach. 47 Coaches attended the Ansbach camp. This was the first year that teams were allowed to start practice the same time that camp was starting. Some teams opted not to attend camp. The first European Football Camp was held in Fulda in 1987. One hundred twenty six (126) players and eighteen (18) coaches attended.
2011 “Super 6” Champions:
Division III: Rota
Division II: Bitburg
Division I: Wiesbaden

Division reports
Division III
Division III (9-man) began the season as a 6 school league, with addition of Bamberg. Sigonella, just off its first European Championship, had to cancel their season, due to a lack of players. This league was created for schools whose enrollments make it difficult to play 11 man football. The average roster for this league has been about 23 players. Rota had a new coach (James Crowell).  Duke Eidt returned to the Alconbury program. Rota won the D3 championship 44-32 over Bamberg.

Division II
Division II (11 teams) was the largest division in 2010. Schweinfurt High School was added to Division II as a new high school, as Schweinfurt students did not attend Bamberg. Shape had a new coach (Tony Harris replaced Jay Bodine). Undefeated Bitburg won their 8th European championship in school history with a 39-18 win over Ansbach in the Super 6 finals. Bitburg’s regular season win streak (22) is currently the longest win streak in DoDDS Europe. Bitburg also won a three-peat and are one of only 5 schools who have done it.

Division I
Division I (8 teams) was probably the most balanced division this year. No teams were dominant and the Super 6 championship game followed the same plan. Wiesbaden rebounded from some early season losses to defeat regular season champ Patch in the semi-finals and then Ramstein in the Super 6 (in a nail biter), 25-23.

SUPER 6 report
The SUPER finals format was held at Baumholder for the 9th consecutive year (2003-2011). AFN broadcasted the game on the Pentagon channel. Attendance was good and the weather was the best we can remember. The high temperature for the day was 56 degrees. All the games were exciting and competitive. If all goes as planned, the Super 6 will move to a turf field at Wiesbaden or K-Town in 2012.
Local national play:

Many DoDDS teams played games versus European teams. The Local National teams provided an opportunity to expand the schedule.
