DoDDS-Europe Football
2000-2009 Decade 1 (21st Century)
Changes in closures: |
| |
Four schools closed:
Hanau High School
London Central High School
Wurzburg High School
Giessen High School |
Changes in school sizes: |
| (division alignment have required movement of many programs up and down in classification) |
| |
Bamberg- from mid-size Division III school to a large Division II school
Ansbach- from Division III to Division II school
Vilseck- mid-size Division II to a Division I school
Patch- larger Division II school to a larger Division I school
Wiesbaden- gets the prize for being the most unpredictable- one year Division II and the next Division I (sometimes we don’t know until the week before practice starts).
Restructuring of the bottom classification to create a 9 man league for those schools that need it has affected the mid-level small schools, as they have moved up to accommodate the smallest schools. This in turned pushed Wiesbaden up to DI. Old mid-level Division III programs, AFNORTH, Baumholder, Hohenfels and Vicenza are now DII. |
Changes in old-guard coaching ranks: |
| |
Long time coaches Ric Carr (Bitburg), Darryl Schwartz (Wiesbaden) and Kenny McNeeley (Aviano) stepped down/retired, after many years at the helms of their schools. |
